PROFILE
 

Jane S. Brooks, FAICP is a professor and program coordinator of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program at the University of New Orleans where she has been a faculty member since 1976.  She brings expertise in the area of historic preservation planning and has been actively involved in community-based historic preservation activities in support of revitalizing diverse New Orleans’ neighborhoods.  She has conducted neighborhood planning studies throughout Metropolitan New Orleans for the New Orleans City Planning Commission, Jefferson Parish Planning Department, and a host of neighborhood associations and non-profit housing and community development organizations.  She is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Chapter American Planning Association and served on the Urban Design Sub-Committee of Mayor Nagin’s Bring New Orleans Back Commission.  She was also a member of the American Planning Association’s Planning Assessment Team that assisted the N. O. City Planning Commission in post-Katrina planning efforts.  Prof. Brooks has been involved in numerous research and profession practice activities centered on urban areas with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Lila Wallace Readers Digest Foundation in such areas as waterfront revival, park planning, and downtown revitalization.  A native of New Orleans, she holds degrees in landscape architecture from LSU and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
