PROFILE

Dr. Iseki’s research, using quantitative (econometrics and geographic information systems (GIS)) and qualitative (surveys, interviews, and case studies) methods, focuses on balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and equity in public policy and planning with a special attention to transportation, environment, and land use.  In details, Dr. Iseki is interested in what policies, systems and schemes of finance, management, and operation increase efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of transportation infrastructure and service, and how costs and benefits are distributed among different socio-economic groups as well as geographic boundaries in the society.  His recent research includes: 1) public-private partnerships in highway financing (funded by California DOT through California PATH), 2) motivations, management, and technologies in the adoption of electronic road pricing (funded by California DOT through California PATH), 3) the impact of local transit finance on social equity and geographic equity, and 4) evaluation of attributes at transit facilities influencing transit users’ perception of travel (funded by California DOT).  Dr. Iseki’s work has been published in a range of transportation and planning journals including Transportation Research A: Policy and Practice, Journal of the Transportation Research Board, Journal of Public Transportation, Journal of Planning Education and Research, and Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design.  Dr. Iseki serves the Committee on Public Transportation Planning and Development (AP025) of Transportation Research Board.
