Ph.D. in Urban Studies Program

The program of study leading to the Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Studies degree in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Orleans enables students of exceptional ability to undertake advanced study and original research in the fields of urban affairs, urban history and urban and regional planning. The program’s mission is to prepare students for careers in scholarly activity, applied research, and policy analysis. The Ph.D. in Urban Studies program provides graduates with a solid foundation from which to conduct applied research and policy analysis outside of academic settings and for teaching and research in colleges and universities. Students will master the literature and theory in a particular area of scholarship, and master the research skills necessary to make significant and original contributions to the field of urban studies and planning. Program faculty members and students assist the Department of Planning and Urban Studies and School of Urban Planning and Regional Studies in their professional public service missions by providing high quality applied research and policy analysis for state, metropolitan, and local agencies and organizations.

For more information about the Ph.D. program, please contact Dr. Michelle Thompson (mmthomp1@uno.edu), the Ph.D. Program Coordinator.
